A man died from a hit-and-run on Highway 58 near Bakersfield and was struck by three additional vehicles on Saturday morning, April 22, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday.
The CHP reported that an unidentified vehicle was driving westbound in the third lane of Highway 58, close to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard underpass. For some unknown reason, the pedestrian crossed Highway 58 in the third lane in front of the unidentified vehicle.
According to officials, the 39-year-old pedestrian was struck three more times by an Acura, Toyota, and Tesla.
The victim was declared dead at the scene, but the unidentified car remains at large. Everyone else involved stayed and cooperated with the CHP.
The crash does not appear to have been caused by drugs or alcohol, and an investigation is still underway.
