[06-11-2023] Trinity County, CA – 72-Year-Old Man Killed, 39-Year-Old Man Injured Following Head-On Collision on SR-299

A 72-year-old man was killed, while a 39-year-old man sustained major injuries after a two-vehicle head-on collision in Trinity County on Sunday evening, June 11, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on the eastbound lanes of State Route 299 in the Trinity River area at around 8:19 p.m.

The elderly man was driving a Ford Ranger westbound on State Route 299 while 39-year-old Aaron A. was driving eastbound on the same route when the Ford deviated onto the eastbound lanes, directly into Angeli’s path, resulting in the head-on collision.

Angeli sustained major injuries from the collision but had enough strength to extricate the unconscious elderly man from his vehicle before it burst into flames a few seconds later. Unfortunately, the Ford driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until notification of his next of kin.

It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol contributed to this incident.
