A man from Paso Robles was killed, while an older woman was injured following a three-vehicle collision near Modesto on Thursday evening, July 6, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on the southbound lanes of Highway 99, south of Pelandale Avenue, at around 11:30 p.m.
The incident started when a 27-year-old man driving a Toyota sedan made an unsafe lane change from the #3 to the #4 lane and into the path of a woman in a Volvo SUV. After getting struck by the sedan, she lost control of her vehicle and went off the freeway.
The Toyota kept going for half a mile before breaking down. After exiting his car, he walked into the #3 lane and tried to flag down other vehicles but was struck by a pickup truck.
The driver of the Volvo, Florinda L., was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, while the Paso Robles man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No information was released regarding the identities of the other people involved or if the pickup truck’s occupants sustained any injuries.
