[08-27-2023] San Diego County, CA – One Person Killed, Another Injured After Multi-Vehicle Wrong-Way Crash Near Mission Valley

One person was killed, while another was injured after a multi-vehicle collision caused by a wrong-way driver in San Diego on Sunday morning, August 27, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol and local firefighters responded to the accident on Interstate 15 around 1:30 a.m.

According to the reports, the authorities got a call about a northbound driver traveling in the southbound lane. An Infiniti SUV, a Honda Fit, and a Nissan Altima were then involved in a collision.

The firefighters attempted to extricate the Honda driver with the rescue tools, including Jaws of Life, for about 25 minutes. It was determined that the victim had died later on. A second person was taken to the local hospital, sustaining unknown injuries from another vehicle.

During the investigation, the freeway was closed at Friars Road, and authorities diverted traffic to Aero Drive.
