[10-09-2023] Los Angeles County, CA – Pedestrian Killed Following Collision With Vehicle on I-10

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle on Interstate 10 in Los Angeles County on Monday night, October 9, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics responded to the incident around 11:44 p.m. along San Gabriel Boulevard on-ramp of the eastbound freeway.

Upon the arrival of emergency teams, the victim was pronounced dead on the scene by the LACFD paramedics.

Authorities did not indicate whether or not the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained on the scene.

According to a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, hit-and-run accidents caused twenty-four percent (24.3 percent) of pedestrian fatalities in 2020. Deaths from pedestrians increased by 46.2% between 2011 and 2020, while deaths from other traffic increased by 14.4%. Deaths for pedestrians increased by 3.9 percent from 2019 to 2020 despite a 13.2 percent decrease in vehicles being driven.

There has been a significant increase in the odds of a pickup or SUV causing a pedestrian fatality in a right-turn crash at 88.6 percent and 63.4 percent, respectively.
