What To Do After Sustaining Injuries In A Car Crash

The majority of car accidents happen so suddenly, leaving victims overwhelmed in the aftermath. You must protect your safety and legal rights to compensation by taking the following steps if you are still able to do so:

  • Move To Safety — If possible, move your car to the side of the road away from traffic. Warn other motorists by turning on your hazard lights as you wait for the authorities.
  • Remain Calm — Check yourself and others for any injuries. When talking with the other people involved, do not apologize or accept the blame for the crash.
  • Inform The Authorities — Call 911 and report the accident to the police. They will make an official report detailing the accident, which you can use to bolster your claim later.
  • Gather Information — Exchange information with the other party and share names, contact details, and insurance information. Take pictures of the vehicles involved, as well as any damage, license plates, and injuries.
  • Don’t Take Responsibility — Give the authorities a thorough explanation of the crash, but be careful not to say anything that could be interpreted as an admission of fault.
  • Get Medical Treatment — Seek medical care immediately, regardless of how minor you think your injuries are. Some injuries do not manifest symptoms right away. You will also need medical records to bolster your claim.
  • Inform Your Insurer — Inform your insurance provider about what happened. Strictly follow their instructions on how to report the crash properly.
  • Avoid Dealing With Adjusters On Your Own — The insurance adjusters may call you. Provide them with only the basic information. Do not accept an offer, make a recorded statement, or sign anything without hiring a lawyer.
  • Preserve Vital Evidence — Ensure all evidence, such as the police report, medical bills, the other driver’s information, and medical records, are secured.
  • Call Arash Law At (888) 488-1391 — When filing a personal injury claim, our top-rated California car accident attorneys can evaluate how strong your case is, negotiate hard with insurance companies, and offer you legal counsel throughout the claims process.
