What To Do After A Car Accident In San Diego County
A car accident can leave you feeling shaken, confused, and unsure of what to do next. However, the steps you take immediately after the crash can make a significant difference in your health, safety, and ability to recover compensation. Here are some recommendations to consider:
- Move To A Safe Location — If it’s safe to do so, move your vehicle out of traffic to prevent further accidents.
- Call 911, Even If You Feel Fine — Emergency responders can check for hidden injuries, and police can document the accident. However, officers may not respond to minor crashes. If they don’t, you may need to file a report with the local police or DMV to protect your legal rights.
- Exchange Information — Collect the other driver’s name, address, phone number, driver’s license number, insurance details, and vehicle information. If there are witnesses, get their contact details as well.
- Gather Evidence — Take photos and videos of the accident scene, including vehicle damage, license plates, road conditions, skid marks, and any visible injuries.
- Seek Medical Treatment — Additionally, it’s important to seek further medical attention, as some injuries, like concussions or internal trauma, may not be immediately apparent but can worsen over time. Furthermore, shock can mask the pain from injuries, and having medical records from the time of the accident can support your case later.
