[06-28-2025] San Bernardino County, CA โ€“ Pedestrian Struck and Critically Injured on Bear Valley Road in Hesperia

A pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle on Bear Valley Road in Hesperia on Saturday evening, June 28, 2025.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at approximately 5:54 p.m. near the 14700 block of Bear Valley Road, in front of the WSS Shoe Store.

The pedestrian was crossing from the north side to the south side of the roadway, outside of a marked crosswalk, when they were hit by a white 2020 Honda Civic Sport Touring sedan driven by an adult male.

The vehicle remained at the scene with visible front-end damage, including a broken windshield and a hanging side-view mirror. The driver was not injured and fully cooperated with authorities.

Deputies from both the Victorville and Hesperia police departments responded due to the locationโ€™s shared jurisdiction. All eastbound lanes of Bear Valley Road were temporarily closed.

The pedestrian was initially taken by ambulance to Desert Valley Hospital. A helicopter was requested for transfer to a trauma center, but it was unclear whether the victim was stable enough to be airlifted. Authorities confirmed that the pedestrian was in grave condition.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Steps To Take After A Pedestrian Accident In Hesperia

A serious pedestrian accident can be overwhelming, especially when the injuries are critical. Taking the right steps after an incident can help ensure safety and provide a clearer path forward.

  1. Call 911 Immediately
If someone is injured, contact emergency services right away. Emergency responders can provide medical attention and begin documenting the scene.
  2. Stay At The Scene And Remain Calm
Make sure you or someone else stays at the scene until authorities arrive. If it is safe to do so, try to avoid moving the injured person unless it is absolutely necessary for their safety.
  3. Cooperate With Law Enforcement
When police arrive, they may ask witnesses and drivers for statements. If you saw the incident or are involved, provide clear and honest information. Officers will prepare a report that may be important later on.
  4. Gather Information If Possible
If the situation allows, collect details such as the driverโ€™s name, contact information, vehicle description, and license plate number. Photos of the scene, traffic signs, or the surrounding area can also be helpful.
  5. Seek Medical Attention
Even if the injured person is taken to the hospital, follow-up care is important. Some injuries may take time to show symptoms. Be sure to keep records of all medical visits and treatment received.
  6. Avoid Making Assumptions About the Crash
Try not to guess or place blame. Stick to the facts when speaking with police or other parties. If unsure about something, it is okay to say so.
  7. Speak With A Pedestrian Accident Lawyer
A lawyer can help review what happened, guide you through the next steps, and explain what information may be useful to gather. Legal guidance may be especially helpful when the injuries are severe or there is uncertainty about how the incident occurred.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

In 2022, 7,522 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes across the United States. That means pedestrians made up 18 percent of all traffic-related deaths in the country. Since people walking do not have the same protection as those inside vehicles, they are more likely to be seriously hurt or killed when crashes happen.

In California, the number is even higher. Pedestrians accounted for 26 percent of all traffic deaths in the state that year, which is more than one out of every four fatalities. This shows how important it is to make roads safer for people on foot by improving crosswalks, traffic signals, and public awareness about pedestrian safety.
