At least one person sustained major injuries following a two-vehicle crash involving a semi truck east of Bakersfield on Tuesday morning, July 8, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 9:35 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Highway 58, just west of Bealville Road. A pickup truck and a semi truck were involved in the crash.
Authorities said the semi truck overturned during the incident while the pickup traveled up an embankment. The crash resulted in major injuries to at least one individual, though further details on their condition have not been disclosed.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the incident.

Fatal large-truck crashes occurred most frequently on weekdays. Data indicates that 78 percent of these incidents took place between 6:00 a.m. on Monday and 5:59 p.m. on Friday. Alcohol impairment was considerably less common among drivers of large trucks involved in fatal crashes compared to drivers of other vehicle types. In 2021, only 3 percent of large truck drivers had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 grams per deciliter or higher at the time of the crash. By contrast, 28 percent of motorcyclists, 24 percent of passenger car drivers, and 20 percent of light truck drivers involved in fatal crashes recorded similar levels of impairment.
When examining prior driving history, 20.8 percent of large truck drivers involved in fatal crashes had previously been in a reportable crash. This figure was slightly higher than the proportion among motorcyclists, passenger car drivers, and light truck drivers, which stood at 19.9 percent, 18.2 percent, and 17.2 percent, respectively. However, large truck drivers were less likely to have experienced prior license suspensions or revocations. Only 6.5 percent had a history of such sanctions, compared to 16.8 percent of motorcyclists, 14.2 percent of passenger car drivers, and 11.2 percent of light truck drivers.
