DUI Accident Statistics

Alcohol-impaired driving continues to be a major cause of fatal and serious injury crashes on California roads. In 2023, 1,355 people died in alcohol-related crashes, representing a 4.5 percent decrease from 2022 but nearly a 55 percent increase compared to 2014.

The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) supports programs following the Safe System framework. By tackling multiple risk factors and using layered safety measures, OTS aims to make roads safer for everyone in California.
