[02-21-2025] Santa Clara County, CA – Two Painting Contractors Hospitalized After Contact With Power Line in North San Jose

Two painting contractors were hospitalized after one of them came into contact with a high-voltage transmission line in North San Jose on Friday morning, February 21, 2025.

According to the San Jose Fire Department, the incident occurred shortly before 11:00 a.m. near the intersection of Zanker Road and Vilaggio Street.

Officials said two adult men were working in a bucket lift approximately 40 feet above ground near power lines when one worker came into contact with a high-voltage line.

Fire officials reported that the worker who contacted the line was electrocuted and suffered burn injuries but remained alive and conscious. The second worker was not injured. Due to the lift’s position, crews were initially unable to lower it to provide medical treatment.

Authorities stated that emergency crews remained on scene while PG&E worked to shut off power and ground the equipment. Firefighters later used a lift truck to extract the workers after the lines were de-energized at approximately 2:45 p.m. Both men were transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Officials said the injured worker suffered burns to the upper portion of his body.

San Jose fire officials identified the men as contractors working for San Jose-based C&A Painting.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the incident due to the workplace injury.
