A 33-year-old man suffered critical injuries after a vehicle struck him while attempting to cross Mitchell Road in Ceres, Stanislaus County, on Sunday night, March 1, 2026.
According to the Ceres Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:08 p.m. at the signalized entrance to the east Walmart parking lot, just north of the Service Road intersection.
Officers responded to multiple 911 calls and arrived to find the pedestrian lying in the roadway with major injuries. They provided lifesaving medical aid until Modesto Fire Department personnel and paramedics arrived and took over advanced care.
The man was then transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Preliminary findings indicate the driver was traveling north on Mitchell Road with a green traffic signal when the vehicle struck the pedestrian who was crossing the roadway.
The department’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded and took over the investigation. Authorities said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
