[04-17-2026] San Bernardino County, CA – One Killed in Fiery Multi-Big Rig Crash in Newberry Springs

One person was killed in a fiery crash involving multiple big rigs in Newberry Springs, San Bernardino County, on Friday evening, April 17, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported just before 7:00 p.m. on the westbound side of Highway 40 near the Desert Oasis Rest Area, just west of Harvard Road.

Responding crews found a collision involving three big rigs and two additional vehicles, with two of the trucks fully engulfed in flames.

One person was found severely injured at the scene and was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
