[09-06-2026] Kern County, CA – Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Bakersfield

A 34-year-old woman, identified as Crystal S., was killed in a hit-and-run crash in south Bakersfield on Sunday evening, September 6, 2026.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. to the 2500 block of South Union Avenue.

Police said the pedestrian was crossing South Union Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a northbound vehicle. The driver fled with the vehicle before officers arrived.

The Bakersfield Fire Department responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Using video footage, investigators later located the vehicle in the 3600 block of Cottonwood Road. Police arrested 36-year-old Guadalupe H. on suspicion of charges including hit-and-run causing death.

According to BPD, the suspect admitted to investigators that he was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
