Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Every sixty seconds, a car accident occurs somewhere in the United States. This is hardly unexpected given the millions of automobiles that travel the roads of the United States every day.

With so many vehicles sharing the road, traffic congestion, bottlenecks, and (most importantly) car accidents – fatal and severe injury accidents – will occur.

In recent years, the number of people killed or injured in car accidents in the United States has increased considerably. In 2019, an estimated 38,000 persons were killed in motor vehicle accidents in the United States, according to the National Safety Council (NSC).

According to the California Active Transportation Safety Information Pages (CATSIP), there were 3,898 fatalities and 27,823 injuries out of nearly half a million police-reported car incidents in 2017.

These car accidents are caused by many factors, including drunk drivers, distracted drivers, speeding drivers, and drivers who disregard traffic laws in general.
