According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle struck a pedestrian and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries on a Highway 99 off-ramp in Merced on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
According to Officer Eric Zuniga, officials responded around 10:00 p.m. to the collision at the southbound Highway 99 Childs Avenue off-ramp.
According to Zuniga, a 43-year-old Merced man was walking across the off-ramp when he was struck by Deborah B., 34, of Merced, driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu.
According to authorities, Boatner was exiting the highway onto the Childs Avenue off-ramp and was unable to see the pedestrian in the roadway due to a lack of lighting.
Karem A., 36, of Chowchilla, was driving behind Boatner in a 2001 Toyota Venza.
According to Zuniga, when the Chevrolet’s wheels locked up in the collision, Aldafari swerved left to avoid hitting the car, causing the Toyota to roll down an embankment.
The pedestrian was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with serious injuries.
Boatner and Aldafari, according to the CHP, cooperated with authorities and were not injured. According to Zuniga, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have played a role in the accident, which is still being investigated.
Pedestrian Accident Statistics
No one can argue that pedestrians are the most vulnerable road users as a result of their inability to prevent fatal injuries in the event of a car accident.
Pedestrian deaths have recently escalated to a critical level of concern here in the United States. The number of pedestrian deaths rose by 27 percent between 2007 and 2016, while the number of other traffic-related deaths fell by 14 percent.
There was no room for doubt when it came to intoxicated drivers who injure pedestrians. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a criminal offense. Drunk-driving accidents are not as common in the United States as they should be.
Every day, approximately 30 Americans lose their lives as a result of drunk driving accidents in the United States, according to the NHTSA.
