Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Even though single-vehicle collisions are among the most lethal on California’s roads, many motorists aren’t aware of this fact.

Sixty-two percent of all fatal car accidents in California involve only one vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). As a result of California’s high number of single-vehicle accidents, drivers must be aware of all of the various factors at play.

A single-vehicle collision can be caused by a wide range of factors. It is common for a single-car accident to occur if the driver is speeding or making sharp turns on a wet or slippery road and loses control. A large branch or a piece of debris from a truck’s bed may also litter the road.

An accident resulting from an unexpected occurrence such as an animal jumping in front of your car is likely to limit your compensation under your insurance policy’s comprehensive coverage plan.

Yolo County Car Accident Lawyers

Many car accident victims are unable to return to work or school because of their injuries. Even if a victim is killed as a result of a negligent driver’s actions, the driver is still responsible for their actions. Any of the deceased victim’s surviving family members (or legal heirs) can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent driver who caused their death.

They’re having a hard time getting through this. Depositions and trials force victims to testify in front of strangers about their losses. During a long legal battle, one’s mental health can suffer greatly.

In the event of an accident, it is critical to hold negligent drivers accountable. Negligence that results in a high death toll necessitates the establishment of a line of accountability. Filing a wrongful death lawsuit can be draining for bereaved families, but it can also provide some comfort. This is great news for Californians who drive.
