One man was killed, and another was injured after a car went over the side of Glendora Mountain Road early Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
The crash occurred sometime between midnight and 12:20 a.m. on Glendora Mountain Road at mile marker 6.51.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the car fell 200 to 300 feet.
According to CHP Officer Chad Guin, the driver, a 21-year-old Diamond Bar man, was able to free himself from the car, climb up the mountainside to the road, and seek assistance.
Guin said the man had abrasions on his face, hands, and knees.
The coroner’s office has not publicly identified the passenger who died in the crash, but he was described as a man in his 30s by the coroner’s office.
According to CHP Sgt. Mark Shaffer, the Diamond Bar man driving a Mazda Miata south failed to negotiate a curve.
The Miata took a sharp right turn and exited the highway.
He went on to say that the car became airborne before colliding with the mountain’s side.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters. According to him, the CHP does not believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
Fatal Car Crash Statistics
Numerous drivers have no idea that single-vehicle collisions are among the most lethal on California’s highways.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than half of all fatal car accidents in California are caused by just one vehicle. In light of the high number of single-vehicle collisions in California, drivers should be well-versed in all potential causes.
A wide variety of factors can cause a single-vehicle collision. Single-car accidents are common when a driver loses control of their car while speeding or making sharp turns on wet or icy roads. Large branches and truck bed debris are also common sources of roadside litter.
The comprehensive insurance plan of your policy is likely to limit your compensation even if an unexpected occurrence caused the accident.
Los Angeles County Car Accident Lawyers
Unfortunately, many people who are injured in car accidents are unable to return to their previous jobs or educational institutions. When another driver’s negligence causes the death of another, that driver is still held responsible. The surviving family members of the victim (or legal heirs) can file wrongful death lawsuits against the negligent driver who caused the victim’s death as a result of his or her carelessness.
They feel the pain all over again as they relive their losses and grief. Victims are compelled to testify in front of strangers in court proceedings, such as depositions and trials. A person’s mental health may suffer if they have to deal with the strain of a protracted legal battle.
Reckless drivers who cause an accident should be held accountable. When a large death toll is the result of a case of negligence, accountability is essential. For the families of those who have died, wrongful death lawsuits can be emotionally draining, but they can also serve as a way to bring some closure. This is good news for all California motorists.
