Motorcycle Accident Statistics

It is 35 times more likely that a motorcycle rider will die in an accident, and 16 times more likely that they will be injured.

Taking a motorcycle ride in Los Angeles is a great way to enjoy the city’s pleasant weather. Motorcyclists don’t have to be concerned about the weather changing with the seasons because of California’s mild climate. Motorcycle riding is possible all year round as long as there isn’t too much precipitation, such as rain, snow, or ice.

There are a lot of motorcycles on the road because of this. This could be a recipe for disaster in Los Angeles’ notoriously congested streets. Motorcycle accidents are more likely to occur when there is a high volume of traffic.

As many as 235 accidents were reported annually between 2014 and 2018. According to these figures, Los Angeles has an average of 255 motorcycle accidents per year.

There were a total of 5,014 motorcycle deaths recorded by the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the USDOT in 2019. Since the early 1980s, the number of motorcycle fatalities had been decreasing, but in 1998, they began to rise again and remained so until 2008.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics, passengers are 16 times more likely than motorcycle riders to be injured or killed in an accident.

Nearly 70% of all traffic collisions are caused by drivers who fail to see a motorcycle at an intersection. One of the most common reasons for motorcycle accidents is that other vehicles fail to notice the motorcycle.

However, a fatal motorcycle accident is preventable. Studies show that wearing a helmet significantly reduces your chances when it comes to serious head injuries. Three-quarters of all fatalities on motorcycles could be prevented by wearing a helmet.
