[07-15-2022] Alameda County, CA - Three People Injured in Train Accident in OaklandAccording to authorities, an Amtrak train was involved in an accident that left three people hurt on Friday afternoon, July 15, 2022.

According to the Oakland Fire Department, the crash occurred on a Friday afternoon close to East 8th Street and 50th Avenue, not far from the Oakland Coliseum.

A front loader tractor and a train reportedly collided near the Oakland Coliseum.

According to fire officials, two people were injured: the tractor’s operator and a passenger on the Amtrak train. The authorities did not disclose the severity of their wounds.

Michael Hunt, a spokesman for the Oakland Fire Department, reported that a third person had minor injuries but wasn’t taken to the hospital.

According to a witness, two men were removing trash from homeless camps close to the track with front-loader tractors.

One of the men stepped across the tracks, encouraging his companion to do the same.

The victim was still inside the tractor’s ruins.

According to the investigators, about 30 passengers were on the train when it collided with the tractor.

A video of the debris by local news showed the tractor in pieces and the Amtrak train with front-end damage.

An Oakland fire hazmat team arrived on the scene after reports that the train’s diesel tank had ruptured.

According to Hunt, the NTSB and Cal-OSHA have been informed.

Train Accident Statistics

Every year, around 5,800 train-car accidents occur in the United States, most of which occur near railroad crossings. Approximately 600 people are killed, and approximately 2,300 are injured in these accidents, which occur daily.

More than half of all fatal railway accidents occur at crossings. It’s mainly because these crossings lack active safety mechanisms, have insufficient safety measures, or have no safety devices at all.

During the day, approximately 75% of automobile-train collisions occur when the train collides with the car. It occurs around half of the time at night. When a crossing isn’t marked, a passing car is likely to be hit by a train.

The Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration states that more than one-third of railroad crossings lack proper warning equipment.

Only 5% were due to mechanical breakdowns, whereas human error was responsible for 48% of all railway incidents in California in 2007. Problems unique to the railroad industry may also play a role in collisions.

The most prevalent causes of train derailments and crashes are a lack of safety safeguards and poor security.
