A rear-end accident happens when a vehicle collides with the one in front. Driver’s negligence or distraction, tailgating, panic stops, and lower traction due to wet weather or worn pavement are all common causes of rear-end accidents.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), rear-end accidents account for just 6% of all fatal car accidents. However, they account for 28% of all automotive accidents, making them one of the most common forms of car accidents in the United States.

Some people think that rear-end collisions are mainly minor scuffs. Surprisingly, when one vehicle rear-ends another, major injuries can occur. Many people involved in rear-end accidents experience post-crash effects for months or years. Rear-end accidents can even cause death.
