One person was wounded following a multi-vehicle crash near Highway 99 on Friday, July 29, 2022.
The collision happened on Friday morning on Clovis Avenue.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, a van was stopped at a red light on Clovis Avenue near Highway 99 when a sweeper truck rear-ended it, going through a utility pole and sending some power lines down onto the street.
According to officials, another car that observed the collision attempted to drive past the area, crashed into the downed wires, and knocked down a second utility pole.
This resulted in further wires falling on four other vehicles, bringing the total number of vehicles impacted to seven.
The van’s driver was reported to have been injured.
According to police, the driver of the sweeper vehicle told officers on the scene that he had lost consciousness and fallen asleep behind the wheel, causing the accident.
No other injuries have been recorded as of this moment.
This investigation is ongoing.
Multi-Vehicle Accident Statistics
A multi-vehicle accident is a car crash involving more than one car. This traffic accident is often called a “pile-up,” especially when involving six or more cars.
According to a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) evaluation, more than 13,000 fatalities occurred in multi-vehicle accidents involving passenger cars—accounting for more than 40% of motor vehicle accidents annually.
These kinds of accidents often happen on highways where hundreds of cars are driving next to each other at high speeds. This makes it hard for many drivers coming up in an accident to stop at a safe distance, which can cause them to crash into other cars.
Most accidents involving more than one car happen when it’s hard to see the road because of fog, rain, or snow. Under these conditions, drivers need to be extra careful and aware. Still, some drivers don’t realize how dangerous the roads are.
When more than one car is involved in an accident, drivers often don’t have much time to decide what to do to avoid hitting the cars in front of them. Most panicked drivers hit the brakes too late, swerve into other lanes, and skid.
Sometimes, cars swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid a crash, but this can start a horrible chain reaction that leads to a bigger pile-up. It’s not a surprise that a crash involving more than one car is one of the most dangerous things that can happen on the road.
Fresno County Multi-Vehicle Collision Lawyers
When more than three cars are involved in an accident, it can be harder to figure out who is at fault than when only one to three cars are involved. Even insurance companies can’t quickly determine who is at fault or what caused the accident. This is why so many cases end up in court. The court can learn more about the case, make a fair decision, and decide on the right amount of compensation.
Multi-car accidents need proof, just like any other traffic accident. Whether there is a death or not, the person with the best evidence list is usually the winner and the one who gets paid the most money. The main evidence that was looked at fell into the category of negligence, and it can be called either contributory or comparative.
