Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Statistics

In 2016, there were a total of 176 fatal two-vehicle accidents in Butte County. Of those 176 accidents, 133 were caused by the actions of the primary driver. The activities of the secondary driver caused the other 43 accidents.

Looking at the data closer, we can see that most fatal two-vehicle accidents are caused by driver error. In fact, out of the 133 fatal two-vehicle accidents caused by the primary driver, 115 of them were due to driver error. This means that 85% of all deadly two-vehicle accidents in Butte County are due to human error.

While this is something we need to be aware of, it’s also important to remember that these statistics don’t necessarily tell the entire story. For example, just because a driver makes a mistake doesn’t mean they are automatically at fault for the accident. Many factors determine who is responsible for an accident, and statistics can only tell us so much.

That being said, it’s still important to be aware of these numbers and to do everything we can to avoid becoming involved in a fatal two-vehicle accident. Driving safely and responsibly is always our best bet for keeping ourselves and others safe.
