A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer was injured after a multi-vehicle traffic accident in Stockton on Monday afternoon, November 9.
The accident occurred at 12:15 p.m. on Highway 99, just south of Arch Road. The officer was reportedly behind the metal guard rail on the highway holding a radar gun when two cars suddenly braked.
A Honda Civic was initially heading northbound on Highway 99 when it started veering for unexplained reasons. It then hit the center divider, and then went to the right and hit a Toyota Highlander in the next lane.
Due to the severity of the impact, it sent the Toyota toward the guardrail and into the CHP motorcycle that was stopped on the right-hand shoulder.
Both the CHP officer and the Toyota driver were injured, he was transported to an area hospital. Their condition has not been disclosed.
Drugs and alcohol were not considered as factors in the accident.
Multi-Vehicle Crash Investigation is Underway
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the case. They will attempt to determine the factors that affected the crash.
When three or more cars collide on the roadway, it is considered a multi-vehicle collision. This type of car accident is commonly caused by a “chain reaction,” when one car bumps into another, which causes the other to hit the next vehicle.
Multi-vehicle collisions are commonly caused by drunk driving, speeding, and distracted driving. It can be quite challenging to pinpoint liability during a multi-vehicle collision investigation, which is why it is essential to hire an experienced Santa Joaquin County personal injury attorney to conduct an independent investigation.
Attorneys can re-interview important witnesses, review relevant surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain the responsible party’s phone and texting records.
