Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

The number of people killed in car accidents decreased by 14% between 2007 and 2016, according to data provided by the Governors Highway Safety Association. However, throughout this same time period, the total number of pedestrian fatalities tragically increased by 27 percent.

The likelihood of suffering serious or fatal injuries as a pedestrian in the United States is anticipated to increase dramatically over the next few years, as seen by these data.

In 2012, automobile accidents were responsible for the deaths of 809 persons and the injuries of approximately 14,000. These data suggest that pedestrians in California face a higher probability of being seriously injured or killed in a traffic incident than pedestrians in any other U.S. state.

In 2016, automobile accidents claimed the lives of more than 6,000 Americans. By the end of that year, 88 people were dying every minute. Hospitalizations due to accidents are expected to rise to 137,000 per year in the United States.
