Truck Accident Statistics

Because trucks tend to be more robust, their drivers are less likely to suffer minor to fatal injuries in a motor accident. Based on data compiled by the National Safety Council, this is the main cause of death and injury for both pedestrians and drivers of smaller cars. Those who are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident with one of these huge vehicles face severe physical and mental risks.

About 4,000 people each year are killed in the United States in accidents involving trucks. Although just two percent of collisions involve heavy vehicles, those cars are responsible for eleven percent of fatalities.

Legally, in California, you can’t drive a big rig faster than 55 mph on every highway or roadway. Limiting the top speed at which semi-trucks are allowed to travel might be one effective way to avoid accidents and save lives.

In 2017, there were approximately 28,000 accidents involving trucks in California, as reported by the state’s Office of Traffic Safety. There were more than 9,000 injuries and 369 fatalities that year.
