According to the Hemet Police Department, the fatal crash occurred shortly before 3:41 p.m. at the intersection of Cawston Avenue and Devonshire Avenue in a residential area in the city.

Responders arrived at the scene to discover that a gray Toyota Prius and a black Ford Escape had collided, setting the Prius on fire. The initial investigation revealed that the Prius traveling north in the northbound lanes on Cawston switched to the southbound lane and directly into the Ford.

The fire was put out by Hemet firefighters and three people were rescued. The male driver of the Prius and the male driver and female passenger of the Ford all sustained injuries and were sent to the hospital. The female passenger later passed away, and the current state of the other occupants remained unknown.

The authorities released no further details on the crash and the identities of the people involved. As further investigation continued, evidence at the scene showed that the speed of the Prius very likely played a role in the crash.
