[02-10-2023] Bicyclist Seriously Injured After Car Crash in Grass ValleyA 59-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured after being struck by a car west of Grass Valley in Nevada County on Friday morning, February 10, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred in the morning on Squirrel Creek Road, east of Gold Drive, south of Rough and Ready Highway.

The vehicle driver involved, Grass Valley resident Fredo T., was driving down the road in the same direction as the bicyclist, David H., also from Grass Valley. He was reportedly blinded by the rising sun, causing his car to veer to the right and striking the cyclist.

David sustained moderate to major injuries, including a broken leg, resulting from the crash. CHP Officer Jason Bice said the roadway didn’t have much of a shoulder area for pedestrians or cyclists.

The driver did not appear to have been negligent in any illegal way and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol while driving. The further investigation continued.
