Fatal Bicycle Accident Statistics

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this year’s bicycle fatalities decreased by 3%, from 871 to 846. Only 2% of all traffic deaths involved motor vehicles and bicycles.

In California, bicycles are classified as vehicles. However, you must also behave as if you were driving a car when riding a bike. These people must obey all traffic rules, including stopping at red lights and riding straight.

The rights of cyclists are often ignored by drivers who ride too close to them when it is not safe. Injuries and even death can result from this.

California leads the nation in the number of people killed or injured while riding a bicycle. It is more common in urban areas where the two modes of transportation are frequently combined that these mishaps take place. Between 2016 and 2018, approximately 455 cyclists were killed in the state of California.
