[02-17-2023] San Diego County, CA – Man Struck by Big Rig While Standing Outside a Car in Alpine

A 26-year-old man was hospitalized after being struck by a big rig while standing next to a broken-down car in Alpine, San Diego County, early Friday, February 17, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred after midnight at 12:45 a.m. on the south side of the Interstate 8 Freeway near Tavern Road.

The man from Lakeside was standing next to a disabled 2002 Cadillac Eldorado at the driver’s side alongside the highway when a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound veered off the road and struck him and the vehicle.

The unidentified man sustained serious injuries and was transported by paramedics to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. Inside the struck car during the crash was a 19-year-old woman from San Diego, and also standing outside was a 20-year-old man from Alpine. Both, along with the truck driver, were unharmed.

No further details on the crash, including the victim’s current condition, were immediately available as the circumstances leading to the event was being looked into by the authorities.
