DUI Accident Statistics

Drunk driving was a factor in the traffic-related deaths of 10,142 Americans in 2019. That year, the death toll from DUI was 3.1 per 100,000 people across the US and 2.4 per 100,000 in California, where 949 people perished in automobile accidents. In addition, in that year, drunk driving was a factor in 28.1% of all U.S. fatalities and 26.3% of deaths in that state.

While the number of drunk driving-related deaths and accidents has reduced since the 1980s, a second government assessment finds that there are still too many intoxicated drivers on the road causing problems.

In California, if your blood alcohol content is 0.08 or more, you will be arrested. Drunk drivers endanger other motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists because they lack the mental clarity required to drive safely.
