[03-08-2024] Humboldt County, CA – Three People Injured Following Plane Crash in Whitehorn

Three people were injured following a plane crash in Whitehorn, Humboldt County, on Friday afternoon, March 8, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 1:15 p.m. around the Usal Road area.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the airplane’s engine lost power just five minutes after taking off. The pilot of the aircraft, carrying three people, tried troubleshooting the issue but to no avail.

To slow down their descent as much as possible, the pilot deployed the airplane’s Cirrus Airframe Parachute System. They ultimately went down into some trees in a heavily wooded area around Usal Road and Yellow Road.

Upon arrival, authorities found all three plane occupants alive but with minor injuries. They were later identified as a 38-year-old male, a 38-year-old female, and a 2-year-old girl. All of them were from Santa Rosa, CA.

Deputies initiated the Aircraft Accident Protocols and contacted the governing bodies primarily responsible for investigating accidents involving civilian aircraft.

The details of the investigation were not immediately available.
