What To Do After A Hit-And-Run Accident In Riverside County

Suffering injuries in a hit-and-run accident can be overwhelming, but knowing what to do immediately after the incident can make a significant difference in your recovery and compensation claim. Taking the right steps not only supports law enforcement in finding the driver but also helps build a strong case for your claim. If you are physically able, consider the following actions:

  1. Move To A Safe Location
To avoid further accidents or injuries, move your vehicle or yourself to a secure area if possible.
  2. Check For Injuries And Stay At The Scene
First, assess your own injuries before checking on others. Remain calm and avoid admitting fault or making any statements that could be misconstrued.
  3. Collect Evidence From The Scene
If you are able, gather as much information as possible about the other vehicle, including its make, model, color, and license plate number. If possible, use your phone to take photos of the vehicle and the accident scene.
  4. Contact The Police Immediately
Report the accident to law enforcement as soon as possible. An official police report will be filed, which is crucial for both identifying the hit-and-run driver and supporting your insurance claim.
  5. Obtain Witness Information
If there are witnesses, collect their names and contact information. Their statements can help validate your account of the incident.
  6. Seek Medical Attention Promptly
Visit a medical professional as soon as possible, even if injuries appear minor. Medical records will not only help in your recovery but also provide essential documentation for your claim.
  7. Notify Your Insurance Company
Report the accident to your insurance provider, sticking to the facts without admitting fault. Avoid giving recorded statements or accepting any settlement offers without consulting a lawyer.
  8. Consult With Our Skilled Hit-And-Run Accident Attorneys
Our experienced attorneys can guide you through the legal process and help you pursue the maximum compensation you deserve.
