Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Injuries and even deaths are possible when pedestrians are involved in a collision with another vehicle. Pedestrians are not as well-protected as passengers in cars and motorcycles when it comes to deadly collisions.
Pedestrian deaths and injuries are on the rise in the United States. Pedestrians have accounted for a large percentage of all road deaths over the past three decades.
It is estimated that between 2007 and 2016, there was a 27% increase in the number of pedestrian deaths in the United States, while other types of traffic-related deaths decreased by 14%.
Five thousand nine hundred seventy-seven Americans lost their lives on foot in 2017. People die at an average of 88 minutes per day. Over 137,000 visits to the emergency room in 2017 were due to non-fatal injuries sustained by pedestrians in vehicle collisions.
According to recent studies, pedestrians in California face a higher risk of injury or death than in other states. In 2018, California’s roadways claimed the lives of 893 pedestrians and injured 14,000 others.
Most pedestrian accidents are caused by driver negligence, including speeding and failure to yield. Being backed by an experienced legal representative is critical when confronted with such difficulties.
