[03-21-2022] Solano County, CA - CHP Sergeant Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident Involving Czech Man in Rio VistaThe CHP issued an alert around 7:20 p.m. for officers to “be on the lookout” for the suspected driver and vehicle.

According to a Facebook post from the Rio Vista Police Department, the sergeant belongs to the CHP’s Napa Office and is expected to recover from his broken leg fully.

A Solano County Sheriff’s Office Deputy assigned to the Rio Vista Police Department as a temporary night shift officer saw a vehicle matching the description given by the CHP later that night around 8:50 p.m.

The deputy stopped the car near Highway 12 and North Fifth Street in Rio Vista, just west of the Sacramento County line.

The car’s driver, according to police, was a non-English speaker who had only recently arrived in the United States from the Czech Republic.

According to police, the deputy used a translation service to communicate with the suspect and was able to detain him without incident.

CHP officers from the Solano office responded to the traffic stop and determined that the man who had been pulled over was the same man who had allegedly assaulted the CHP Sergeant.

The California Highway Patrol took over the investigation and arrested the car’s driver on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
