Road Rage Incident Statistics

When a driver intentionally threatens another driver with their vehicle, road rage is considered. This leads to catastrophic injuries and even fatalities in automobile accidents involving aggressive driving and the deliberate irresponsible conduct of an enraged motorist.

A driver who engages in road rage can be prosecuted for a criminal violation, even if aggressive driving is a traffic offense. This is especially true in cases where an aggressive driver in their vehicle has assaulted a driver.

In 2019, 82% of people admitted to committing an act of road rage in the past year, according to the Zebra. Additionally, according to the American Automobile Association, more than 200 murders and 12,000 injuries were attributed to road rage over seven years.

According to the data collected by the AutoVantage Club, around 37% of aggressive driving incidents involve a firearm. Approximately 30 murders annually are linked to road rage.

It is wise to avoid escalating a difficult situation even though you are not responsible for the actions of other drivers. You should always lock your doors and provide yourself enough room to escape if you find yourself the subject of road rage.

If you think you’re in danger, immediately drive to the nearest police station or have a passenger call 911.
