[04-11-2023] San Diego County, CA – One Person Killed After SUV vs. Semi-Truck Crash on I-5

An individual was killed after an SUV crashed into a semi-truck on Interstate 5 in San Diego County on Tuesday at noon, April 11, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal crash occurred around 11:57 a.m. on southbound I-5, south of the Aliso Creek Rest Area, near Camp Pendleton.

A white Infinity QX4 driven by a 54-year-old man reportedly crashed into a tractor-trailer stopped on the freeway for reasons still under investigation. Authorities said alcohol or drugs did not play a role.

The SUV’s driver passed away from his injuries. The authorities only identified him as being from Westminster, California. CHP did not indicate how many people were involved in the crash.

According to Caltrans, the deadly collision resulted in two interstate southbound lanes closing until around three in the afternoon.
