One person was taken to the hospital after a rollover crash on Interstate 15 in Escondido on Thursday, April 21, 2022.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 11:00 p.m. on northbound I-15, just north of Via Rancho Parkway.
According to CHP officials, an SUV rear-ended a pickup truck, causing it to roll over.
The CHP further reported that the SUV pulled over further down the freeway, and officials believe the SUV’s driver got out and fled.
The truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after suffering minor injuries.
Due to the wreckage cleanup and search for the suspected hit-and-run driver, multiple lanes were closed for at least one hour.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol say they’re looking for the registered owner of the abandoned SUV.
There are no other details available.
The crash remains under investigation.
Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics
A car accident caused by the carelessness of another driver is never a pleasant experience. Things will go from bad to worse as soon as the other driver refuses to stop, accepts responsibility for the accident, and offers assistance.
Hit-and-runs are all too common in car accidents. 2,049 people lost their lives as a result of hit-and-run accidents in the United States in 2016, and an estimated 682,000 hit-and-runs occur each year in the United States, according to a recent study. Every week, at least one pedestrian is struck and killed by a car.
To avoid pedestrian accidents caused by other people’s carelessness, you have no choice but to walk.
For a variety of reasons, people choose to leave the scene of an accident rather than wait until the police arrive. Those who are undocumented, uninsured, or in some other precarious situation may be more likely to drink and drive.
