[04-27-2023] Los Angeles County, CA - Bicyclist Killed After Hit-and-Run In HawthorneA bicyclist was fatally struck by an SUV in Hawthorne Thursday evening, April 27, 2023.

According to the Hawthorne Police Department, authorities responded to reports of an injury accident at the Rosecrans and Cerise Avenues intersection around 8:45 p.m.

Although the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and paramedics attempted to save the person’s life, the victim died.

An initial investigation by police showed that the bicyclist was struck by a black Nissan SUV traveling west on Rosecrans Avenue.

An unidentified caller later informed police that the car was parked in an underground garage in the 14100 block of Cerise Avenue. Investigators found the vehicle and verified its involvement in the fatal collision.

According to authorities, the 21-year-old SUV driver who killed the cyclist in Hawthorne before eluding capture has been detained.

The location and method of the driver’s arrest are unknown. His identity was not immediately disclosed.
