[05-05-2023] San Diego County, CA – At Least One Person Injured After Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-8 in Mission Valley

At least one person was injured in a multi-vehicle crash in San Diego on Friday morning, May 5, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at about 5 a.m. near the Taylor Street/Hotel Circle freeway exit on Interstate 8.

As per the report, two cars were initially involved in the crash, which led to other drivers colliding, resulting in a pile-up on the road. At least 14 vehicles crashed in nine separate accidents.

The number of injuries sustained in the incident was not confirmed, although some individuals with minor injuries were transported to nearby hospitals.

Following the accident, a SigAlert was released, and the westbound I-8 lanes were closed for nearly an hour to clear the road of debris. The freeway was reopened at 6:30 a.m.

It was not immediately evident what caused the incident.

Car Accident Statistics

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that in 2020, there was a 7.2% increase in traffic fatalities in the United States compared to the previous year, resulting in the highest number of deaths since 2007.
