[05-12-2023] Driver Killed, Passenger Severely Injured After Fiery Rollover Crash in ModestoA female driver died, and the passenger was severely injured in a fiery rollover crash in Modesto on Friday morning, May 12, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol said the incident occurred around 1:16 a.m. at the L Street off-ramp from southbound State Route 99.

According to the report, the incident occurred when the woman, driving a Toyota sedan south on Highway 99, took the L street exit. For unknown reasons, she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the east side of the road and collide with a tree. The impact resulted in the Toyota resting on its passenger side and catching fire.

Kevin N., a 30-year-old, was identified as the passenger in the vehicle and managed to exit the car. Sadly, the driver remained trapped inside and tragically died.

Nakhiengchan was subsequently transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of his injuries.

According to the CHP, both occupants were not wearing their seatbelts during the crash. The involvement of alcohol or drugs in the incident has not been determined yet.

The collision is currently being investigated.
