An 83-year-old man identified as Joe P. was killed following a fatal hit-and-run crash in El Centro on Monday night, May 16, 2022.
The accident happened at approximately 7:10 p.m. in the area of Lotus Avenue and Ross Avenue in El Centro.
The 83-year-old man was reportedly delivering fresh produce to his family when he stepped off the curb and was struck by a gray Nissan SUV.
The Nissan driver did not stop to help the old man and drove away from the scene. The vehicle was last seen heading north on Lotus Avenue.
The 83-year-old man was rushed to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, he was unable to survive his injuries and was pronounced dead.
On the next day, authorities found the suspect’s vehicle and were later able to locate the driver. The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Joey K.
The suspect was booked at Imperial County Jail and was arrested for Hit and Run Driving, Resulting in Death or Serious Injury to Another Person.
An active investigation of the case is currently underway.
