[05-17-2023] San Francisco County, CA – Elderly Passenger Rescued near Alcatraz Island After Suffering Leg Injury on Cruise Ship

An 85-year-old man suffered a leg injury aboard a cruise ship near Alcatraz Island, San Francisco, on Wednesday evening, May 17, 2023.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. while heading to San Francisco Bay from Alaska.

The report said the Coast Guard received a message regarding an older man who had suffered a leg injury while on the Ruby Princess Ship operated by Princess Cruises.

As the ship returned to the Bay near Alcatraz, a Coast Guard boat crew approached the vessel, transferred the injured man from the ship, and transported him to shore, where emergency medical personnel were waiting.

The Coast Guard provided no further information about the man’s condition.

After the successful transfer of the injured passenger, the Ruby Princess continued its journey toward its Alaskan destinations.
