According to authorities, one person was killed in a fatal traffic collision near UC Riverside on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
The crash occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. on San Bernardino (215) Freeway near the Riverside (91) Freeway.
During the investigation and cleanup, California Highway Patrol officers activated a SigAlert on the northbound 215 freeway, slowing traffic in both directions for hours.
The identity of the person killed in the crash is unknown at this time.
A loose tire crossed the 215 from the southbound side to the northbound side, coming to a stop in the middle lanes.
According to the CHP, a white Ford crossover vehicle and a silver Toyota Tacoma collided while avoiding the tire.
According to witnesses, the tire was reported to have come from a green Chevrolet Suburban traveling southbound on the 215 just north of West Blaine Street.
That car slammed into the divider in the middle.
The crash remains under investigation.
