According to the California Highway Patrol, a 38-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian accident in Modesto early Thursday morning, June 16, 2022.
The crash occurred shortly before 3:00 a.m. on Highway 99 south of Kansas Avenue in Modesto.
The 38-year-old Modesto man was walking in the center median of northbound Highway 99 as a Nissan Murano approached in the fast lane.
According to the CHP, the pedestrian turned abruptly and walked directly into the path of the Nissan.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is withheld until his family is notified.
The Nissan’s driver, a 24-year-old Modesto resident, was unharmed.
According to CHP, the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but it is still being investigated whether the pedestrian was.
There are no other details available.
The crash remains under investigation.
