A 64-year-old man was killed when the car he was riding in crashed into a light pole on the east end of Riverside on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.
According to the Riverside Police Department, the crash occurred around 12:15 in the morning at the intersection of Orange Street and Tyco Drive.
According to Sgt. Andrew Leyva, the 28-year-old driver of a Dodge Grand Caravan, crossed Orange’s northbound lanes, apparently losing control, and slammed into a light standard on the sidewalk.
The passenger, whose identity was not immediately made public, was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived at the scene, according to Leyva.
According to the police spokesman, the driver was unharmed.
He claimed that the crash caused a power outage in the area.
Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 62% of fatal car accidents in California are caused by single-vehicle crashes. Single-vehicle accidents in California require that drivers be aware of a wide range of potential contributors.
Vehicles colliding with one another can happen for a variety of reasons. If you drive recklessly on a slick road while speeding or making sharp turns, you could end up with a runaway vehicle. As a result of the truck traffic, the road has become littered with branches and other debris.
In the event of a single-car accident, your comprehensive insurance policy is likely to pay less than your collision insurance policy if the accident is caused by something other than your or another driver’s negligence.
