[06-24-2023] Kings County, CA – Male Motorcyclist Killed, Female Passenger Seriously Injured After Collision with Pickup Truck on Highway 198

A 52-year-old male motorcyclist was killed, and his 49-year-old female passenger was seriously injured following a collision with a pickup truck on Highway 198 near Hanford on Saturday afternoon, June 24, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the head-on collision happened just after 12:45 p.m. on Highway 198 near 7th Avenue.

According to investigating authority, the 1999 Toyota pickup truck driver was driving east on Highway 198 near 7th Avenue. For an undetermined reason, he veered to his left and traveled across a dirt center median, causing the collision with the motorcyclist and his passenger, who were heading west.

At the time of the crash, both driver and passenger of the motorcycle were wearing a helmet, while the pickup truck driver was not wearing his seatbelt.

The female passenger, identified as Kathy R., was flown to Community Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, while the car driver, identified as 18-year-old Juan E., was not hurt.

The motorcycle driver’s identity has not been released.

The investigation into the crash continues.
