The Mercedes flipped over, hit the Mercedes SUV in the #1 lane, and finally came to rest in the center divider.
The woman was extricated from the Mercedes, and the two victims were in the gray sedan.
According to the Chula Vista Fire Department Captain, all three were taken to Mercy Hospital due to serious injuries.

Head-On Collision Statistics
In a “head-on collision,” the front of one vehicle strikes the front of the other. On the most hazardous highways, head-on collisions have resulted in numerous fatalities and injuries.
Less than 10% of all fatalities in the US are caused by head-on collisions, which account for the majority of fatalities.
The most frequent accident occurs when a car crosses a centerline or median and hits another vehicle head-on. You run the risk of being in a collision if you are driving on the wrong side of the road.
Driving while intoxicated, passing on a two-lane road, making quick lane changes because of construction or backed-up traffic, among other factors, can result in head-on collisions. Road inadequacies, autonomic failures, and high speed/loss of control are all potential causes of head-on collisions.
The best thing you can do if you see a car coming at you head-on is to stay in the middle of your lane, honk, and immediately slow down. You are therefore less likely to sustain serious injuries or even pass away as a result of the collision.
