[08-09-2023] San Diego County, CA – Deadly Crash Leaves 1 Dead, 4 Injured, Caused by Suspected DUI Driver in Oceanside

A woman was killed, and four others were injured in a multi-car crash caused by a suspected DUI driver in Oceanside late evening on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on northbound Interstate 5, north of State Route 78, around 8:58 p.m.

A 39-year-old male suspect, identified as Edwin H., was driving his black Chevy Corvette at high speed when he crashed into a parked red sedan.

The crash pushed the sedan onto ongoing traffic, where an 18-wheeler collided with it, killing a female passenger on impact while injuring four other occupants who were rushed to the hospital.

The suspect attempted to flee from the scene on foot after the incident but was apprehended shortly after by authorities. He is now facing charges that include DUI, hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter.

The identities of the victims were not disclosed.
