Truck Accident Statistics
Large trucks play a key role in transporting goods, but are significantly heavier than passenger vehicles, which can make collisions more dangerous. In 2023, there were 5,375 fatal crashes involving large trucks nationwide. This marked an 8.4 percent decrease from 2022.
Despite the recent decline, fatal truck crashes have risen by 43 percent over the past decade. The data suggests that while short-term improvements have occurred, long-term trends show an overall increase in deadly incidents involving large trucks.
